This joint right here is the tune that made us instant hood celebrities. The original Here’s Johnny was recorded at Rappermatical’s Mello Goo’s crib on 135 ave, between 227 and 228th street in Laurelton Queens. The original was recorded on a small 4 track cassette recorder. It had a simple beat, but it rocked the neighborhood, because it was a breath of fresh air. Johnny and me were like 15, 16 at the time.
Before we met Paul Cee, we use rehearse with The Clientele Brothers, in Eddie Ojay’s uncle Gene’s basement. When Johnny and me would leave rehearsal, we would hear music coming from the house across the street. We eventually learned that the music we were hearing was being played live by Ray Romain.
After being introduced to Ray Romain aka Professor KB, we began making tapes at his crib. He had a super dope set up. “Here’s Johnny” was the first joint we did with Ray. We felt it would be doper with Ray playing live on the recordings. The original only had a beat repeating, but with Ray the song came to life.
